Configuring maxCache Read Caching

Adaptec Storage Manager supports an advanced read caching technology called maxCache. Adaptec maxCache uses the Solid State Drives (SSDs) in your system as a fast read cache pool to improve performance in read-intensive applications.

With maxCache Read Caching enabled, the system analyzes IO traffic patterns and copies frequently read “hot” data to the SSD cache pool—the maxCache pool.

You can configure maxCache SSD caching only if you have one or more compatible Solid State Drives installed on the RAID controllers in your system. See www.adaptec.com/compatibility for a list of maxCache-compatible Solid State Drives.

Note! maxCache Read Caching is supported by Adaptec Series Q controllers only.

Adaptec Storage Manager assigns all compatible SSDs to the maxCache pool, by default. Use the following procedures to add or remove SSDs, to configure the maxCache flush and fetch rate, to enable maxCache read caching for a logical device, and to clear the maxCache pool.

To check the status of the SSDs in the maxCache pool, including wear-level and longevity indicators, see Maintaining Solid State Drives. To check maxCache statistics for a logical device, see Logging Statistics for Remote Analysis.
